Hugh Gerald Hill, 90

Beersheba Springs native Mr. Hugh Gerald Hill, 90, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

He was born in Beersheba Springs on Nov. 16, 1935, to James Benjamin “J.B.” Hill and Frankie Fay Fults Hill, who preceded him in death along with his wife, Gwendolyn Flynn Hill; sister, Sylvia Jane Hill Mason.

He was a contractor for the United States Postal Service, a farmer, and a member of the Church of Christ. He was a US Army veteran. He graduated from Grundy County High School. He served as Mayor of Beersheba Springs and served on the Grundy County Commission and Grundy County School Board.  

He was a man of strong character, hard work and dedication to his family. Sports were one of his greatest passions, especially football. In his younger years he was an outstanding football player whose talent and love for the game never faded. He enjoyed sharing stories from those days, recounting memorable plays, games and cherished friendships. Family gatherings were filled with his football tales told with pride.  

He is survived by his daughter, Kyra Hill Myers; granddaughters, Kristin (Adam) Carson and Kasey Myers; great grandchildren, Crue, Abel Kreh, Riggs and Olive Carson.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 19, at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with burial to follow in the Hunerwadel Cemetery.

Visitation: 12-3 p.m. Friday at Layne Funeral Home, Altamont.
