Tracy City resident Mary Ellen Shrum, 101, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Coalmont on April 9, 1924, to the late Anthony and Ruth Anders Richmond Sweeton. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jess Richard Shrum; brothers, Walter Sanders, Richard, Buford, Alton, Allen and Danville Sweeton; and sisters, Ruth Moran, Thelma Anderson, Sarah Shrum, Rachel Sweeton, and Julene Gilliam.

Mary loved gardening and enjoyed planting flowers. She was always taking care of others.

She is survived by her sons, Jeff and Richard Shrum of Tracy City; daughters, Marcia (Mike) Vanattia of Lynchburg and Iris (Joe) Sanders of Tracy City; grandchildren, Anders (Ella) Vanattia, Joey (Scherra) Sanders, and Ashley Vanattia; and brother, John Sweeton of Tullahoma.

The funeral service was held 3 p.m. on Friday, April 3, at Cumberland Funeral Home in Tracy City with Bro. Mike Rigsby officiating. Burial followed at Pryor Ridge Cemetery. Visitation with the family was held from 1 p.m. until time of service.
