Notice: Sewanee resident Joe Green, 79, passed away April 23. He was born in Sewanee to the late Columbus and Sallie Jacobs Green on April 24, 1946. Funeral services were held April 26. Arrangements by Cumberland Funeral Home.

Student Spotlight

The Grundy County Herald has invited each school to spotlight a stellar student. Pupils may be nominated for academic achievement, effort, improvement, good citizenship, or kindness, etc.

Grundy native garners recognition

Jason A. Roach received the Grand Scholar Award and Medal in March from Dr. Ismail Fidan of the Engineering Department at Tennessee Technological University. Jason is the son of Jason and Connie Roach, of Coalmont, who say they’re proud of their son’s accomplishments and awards he has received while attending college. That sentiment was shared by his sister, nieces and nephew. Jason expressed gratitude for several teachers who helped in his success while attending Swiss Memorial Elementary and Grundy County High schools: Clada Meeks, Angela Fults, John Rogers, Randy King, Edward Bowen and Donald Partin.
