A Tracy City man has been arrested for allegedly trying to solicit a minor. School officials have stressed the incident in question did not happen on school grounds.
The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Christopher Leiderman, 36, of Tracy City, following an investigation involving the alleged solicitation of a minor.
The investigation began Wednesday after deputies were called to a local elementary school regarding a concerning incident involving a child.
“Following the initial investigation, we tracked Leiderman in Sequatchie County where he was taken into custody by Sequatchie County Sheriff’s Office,” the sheriff’s office revealed. “This remains an active and ongoing investigation, and additional charges are anticipated as investigators continue gathering evidence.”
The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office revealed that it takes allegations involving the safety and well-being of children extremely seriously.
“Protecting the children of Grundy County remains one of our highest priorities, and we will continue working diligently to ensure those responsible for crimes against children are held accountable,” the sheriff’s office added while thanking Sequatchie County for assistance in this matter.
Due to the sensitive nature of this investigation and the involvement of a child, the sheriff’s office is not releasing any further information at this time.
A statement released by the Grundy County School system clarified that the incident did not happen on school grounds.
“The matter was reported by an elementary school, which is significantly different from the incident occurring at the school,” the statement noted. “We understand that reports involving the safety of children, particularly when a school is mentioned, can understandably cause concern among parents and community members. It is important that information shared with the public accurately reflects the circumstances. Grundy County Schools remains committed to the safety and well-being of our students and to working closely with law enforcement whenever concerns involving children are brought to our attention. We appreciate the continued trust and support of our families and community.”
