Sewanee Symphony Orchestra celebrates 40th Anniversary

Under the direction of Dr. Mario Torres, concertgoers to the Sewanee Symphony Orchestra should expect an element of surprise in every performance.
Sensational super- hero movie scores, European folk-dance, howling macabre, angelic choral collaboration in All-Saints chapel, and electrifying Christmas music at the Caverns have all been part of the docket for the past four years while Maestro Torres has conducted, and even the classical repertoire such as Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, and Mozart come to life like a plein-air portrait created with music. For the 40th year anniversary celebration of the Sewanee Symphony Orchestra, don’t expect to hear any orchestral music. Rock, pop, jazz, and country hits through the ages will make up the concert program, such as a Led Zeppelin medley, and a tribute to Dolly Parton.
The concert will take place on October 9th at 7:30 p.m. in Guerry Auditorium, located at 68 Georgia Ave, Sewanee, and is free and open to the public. And yes, they are going to play “Stairway to Heaven.”
