Human remains found near Tracy City identified

Aset of human remains, which were initially unidentifi ed since last month, have at last been identified as belonging to missing Marion County resident Philip Gage Thrasher.
Recently this past week, the Marion County Sheriff ’s Department have publicly announced that the remains were positively identifi ed to belong to Thrasher, who was reported missing back in 2024. According to a public statement released online by the sheriff’s offi ce, the department was notified about human remains discovered by 1444 Pryor Ridge Rd near Tracy City on Wednesday, Sept. 16. Working alongside personnel from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), the Hamilton County Crime Scene Unit, and Murfreesboro Police Department’s Officer Alexander and K-9 Unit Kari, investigators conducted a search of the area and discovered several human remains, all of which were recovered and taken to both the Medical Examiner’s Office and the University of Tennessee’s Medical Center for full examination and identification.
“The Marion County Sheriff’s Office extends its condolences to Mr. Thrasher’s family and expresses our appreciation to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Murfreesboro Police Department, Officer Alexander and K-9 Kari, the Hamilton County Crime Scene Unit, the University of Tennessee Medical Center, and all personnel involved in the investigation, recovery, examination, and identification process,” the Marion County Sheriff’s Office stated.
Currently, the case remains ongoing and the sheriff’s department has stated no further information will be released at this time out of respect for the victim and their family, while also to ensure the integrity of the case is protected.
