County knows who its mayors will likely be as all five mayoral spots up for grabs in the November election are uncontested.

In Altamont, Jana Barrett will run uncontested for mayor; however, there will be some drama when it comes to aldermen as three candidates are running for two spots. The candidates in Altamont include Bridget Jones, Caleb Smartt and Darrell Tate.

In Coalmont, the mayor will be Dennis Alan Jones (barring a successful write in campaign) and he will be joined by aldermanic candidates Andrew Parson and Carla Tate In Gruteli-Laager Allen (Big Al) Joslyn is running unopposed for mayor. However, there are four candidates running for two full terms on the city council. They include Colby Cox, Hubert Dewayne Turkey Hargis and Ronnie Wayne Scissom. There is also an unexpired term that is being sought by candidates Jama Jacks King and Donna Rollins. Only one can win.

In the town of Palmer Daniel T. Crabtree is running unopposed. Unlike some of the other towns, Palmer does not have enough candidates on the ballot as Justin Clay Cannon is the only person seeking an aldermanic seat. The town needs one more candidate for the full term and one candidate for a partial term. Write in candidacies are still possible provided they notify the election administrator before deadline.

The town of Monteagle will apparently have a new mayor as Dean Lay is the only candidate. It is still a mystery who his city council will be as five candidates are vying for two spots. The candidates include Jessica D. Blalock, Felicia Ladd, David M. Pilcher, Dan Sargent and Nate Wilson.

Stacie Hutcheson is running unopposed for Tracy City mayor. There are two candidates for three full term aldermanic spots. They include Sarah G. Brown, Julie Crudgington and Theron E. Gross. Cindy Kilgore is the only candidate seeking election for an unexpired term in Tracy City.

There is one commissioner running in the town of Beersheba Springs that is Clayton Forsyth.

Election Day across Grundy County’s towns and cities will be Nov. 3. That will be the same day of state and federal elections which include the race for Tennessee governor.
