This past Saturday, the Lady Jackets participated in Coffee County’s varsity tournament. The girls played excellent winning games against Fayetteville, Lincoln County and Sante Fe and losing to White County during pool play. This allowed Grundy to be ranked in the Gold division for the single elimination tournament where a talented Eagleville eliminated them. Eagleville went on to win the 13-team tournament.
“The girls were playing great as a team. I look forward to this week against defending district champs Signal Mountain at home on Tuesday, Marion County at home on Wednesday, and away at Notre Dame on Thursday followed by a tournament at Warren County on Saturday,” said Coach Allison Borne.
Borne went on to explain some schedule changes over the last week.
“We haven’t played a regular season game since Bledsoe County on September 4. The game at St. Andrews was cancelled by the assigning official because of a shortage of referees and because it wasn’t a district game. It had to be rescheduled for Wednesday September 24,” said Borne.
The game scheduled this past Wednesday at Chattanooga Christian was cancelled that morning and they told Coach Borne that the school had “forgotten” to request referees for that day. It was ironic that the previous Friday’s edition of the Chattanooga Times had stated that their best hitter had been injured.
In any event, this all-important district matchup will be played when Chattanooga Christian was already scheduled to visit the mountain on September 30 in what will now be a double header. This is a very important night for the Lady Jackets.
“It will be wonderful if we have a large fan base that night. The first game begins at 4:30 p.m. The second match will start at approximately 630 p.m. with a JV game in between,” added Borne.
