Volleyball Gets Season Underway

The Lady Yellow Jackets got their season started with two matches over the last week. Unfortunately, they dropped both and start the season at 0-2.

Grundy fell 25-21, 25-14 and 25-19 in favor of St. Andrews-Sewanee August 18. The junior varsity won their first game against SAS 25-13 but fell in the next two by 25-20 and 15-11 scores.

VB2“The girls had a lot of first game jitters but played through them and did a great job,” said Coach Jessica Childers.

The Lady Jackets fell at home Monday night in district action to Signal Mountain. The varsity lost 25-6, 25-14 and 25-22.

“The girls started out struggling to find their rhythm in the first game. In the next two games they started playing their game but unfortunately came out on the short end,” said Childers.

Taylor Floyd had a block and two kills in the match. Ashton Hammers had two digs. Megan Haynes picked up an ace and two digs. Halie Monroe had two digs and a kill. Kaila Elsea notched a dig and had five kills. Kayla Pleasant had three digs and a kill. Kristen Weaver scored an ace and three kills.

The junior varsity lost to Signal 25-15 and 25-8. In that game, Emily Blalock notched one ace and one dig. Ashley Smith had two aces and a dig.

Grundy played at home Tuesday. Today they travel to Chattanooga Christian at 5 p.m.. This Tuesday they play at Warren County at 5:30 p.m.. Get out and support the Lady Yellow Jackets this week!
