The annual Coalmont Christmas Giveaway will be held on Tuesday, December 17, at the Coalmont United Methodist Church. The doors will open promptly at 8 a.m., and the giveaway will finish at 2 p.m.
Anyone who cannot comfortably afford to provide an adequate Christmas for their family members is invited to “simply show up and take what is needed,” say organizers. The quantity and type of items to be given away vary considerably from one year to the next.
This special Christmas tradition began over twenty years ago and has helped hundreds of people in need and perfectly demonstrates the real meaning of Christmas.
Better Angels skills workshop
Better Angels, a citizens’ organization uniting red and blue Americans to depolarize America, is conducting a free workshop on December 14, with an emphasis on “How to Talk to Your Relatives Over the Holidays.” This workshop, beginning at 9:30 a.m., will be held in St. Mark’s Hall, at Otey Parish Church, in Sewanee.
The goals of this skills workshop focus on learning how to communicate better with people who differ from you politically. Participants learn and get to practice effective listening and speaking skills so that important messages and beliefs are heard. It is hoped that the conversations lead to finding common ground.
Anyone interested in having better conversations with people on the other side of the political aisle is invited. To learn more about Better Angels, go to www.better-angels.org. Please RSVP to Rev. Tom Banks at email@example.com or Mary Priestley at firstname.lastname@example.org.
