Members of the Kirby-Smith Chapter 327 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy participated in Cowan’s open house on November 24. Their participation was in conjunction with “Small Business Saturday in Tennessee.” Dressed in antebellum period attire, members strolled through the business district extending holiday greetings and encouraging individuals to shop locally.
“There were many who thought we were carolers,” said chapter president Ginger Delius.
At the entrance to the park, member Syble Throneberry, presented a brief history of Cowan which included the town’s involvement during the War Between the States and the 1863 Tullahoma Campaign.
The chapter holds its monthly meeting on the third Saturday of each month at the Oak Restau-rant in Manchester. Due to the holiday season the December meeting will be held on the second Saturday, December 8. The meeting will begin at 11:15 a.m.
