Tennessee First Lady Maria Lee will serve alongside volunteers on Make a Difference Day, on July 20, at several elementary school sites. Lee is passionate about service and found a good match in the goals of South Cumberland Community Fund’s Make a Difference Day and her own priorities for serving the state.
For the third year, SCCF will partner with the eight elementary schools on the Plateau and the AmeriCorps VISTA program for a morning of service. Volunteers are needed to plant gardens, apply new paint in old spaces, and spruce up playgrounds, among many other projects. The service day will run from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m., and a light breakfast will be available with a T-shirt given to every volunteer.
All hands are welcome – students, parents, teachers, and community members. Rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows, and other gardening equipment are needed for many of the schools.
