The Tennessee Highway Patrol has partnered with Grundy County High School football for the first THP Mentorship Program. Each week, Lt. John Harmon, with the THP, visits with GCHS football players, coaches, and staff to provide encouragement and guidance to the team. Harmon focuses on making good life choices and being a leader on and off the field during his visits.
In addition to speaking with the players, Harmon often brings in special guests to offer career advice and motivation to the team. Last month, players enjoyed meeting Sgt. Lee Russell, a THP helicopter pilot, who spoke to them about his duties. This week, players enjoyed a visit from Ranger David Haggard, with the Tennessee State Park Service, who brought in an owl, a red tailed hawk, and a bald eagle for players to interact with as he described the park ranger career path.
The GCHS football program is benefiting from the mentorship as players focus on their current choices and are guided to become future leaders.
