The Town of Tracy City recently announced the Tracy City Volunteer Fire Department was awarded a $32,000 grant from USDA Rural Development as part of the Communities Facilities Grant Program. These funds, matched by the Town of Tracy City, allowed the fire department to purchase needed equipment to replace units over 15 years old and no longer certified by the NFPA. Equipment purchased included eight SCBA breathing apparatus, eight face masks, 16 air cylinders, and one battery charger.
Tracy City Volunteer Fire Department now consists of 14 volunteers and depends heavily on donations and fundraisers to help with the purchase of equipment, maintenance, and gear. While the department receives budget funds from the town, it is not always enough to cover the upkeep of equipment, gear, and regular maintenance.
