The TBI is investigating the death of Kenneth Tate, 65, of Monteagle, as a homicide. Tate’s body was discovered by a relative at his home on 3rd Street in Monteagle on Tuesday, June 2.

Monteagle Chief of Police Virgil McNeece said in a press conference on Wednesday, June 3, that they received a call from the relative around 11 a.m. Tuesday morning.tate 2

“Upon entering the home, I saw signs of what I felt indicated a probable homicide,” said McNeece. He contacted district Attorney Mike Taylor and the decision was made to bring in the TBI. “The TBI now has full jurisdiction over the case.”

Tate, who lived alone, had resided at his current address on 3rd Street since 1994. His body has been sent to Nashville for an autopsy.

The TBI considers this an ongoing investigation and is unable to release specific details about the case at this time.
