SNAP matching free fruit and vegetable incentive
The South Cumberland Online Farmer’s Market is offering a new incentive for local farmers to provide SNAP recipients with fresh, local fruits and vegetables. SNAP recipients can purchase up to $10 of any SNAP eligible items and get a matching amount of fruits and vegetables free. The incentive program will run from April 13 to October 30.
To participate in the program, SNAP recipients must log on to http://sewanee.locallygrown.net and create an account. Each Friday, an email will be sent to participants alerting them that the market is open. Once the email is received, go online anytime between Friday night and Monday morning to place an order.
Once signed in, SNAP recipients must chose the SNAP Local Fresh item and place it in their cart. This will alert the market manager that the user is participating in the program.
Next, continue in The Market and order any SNAP eligible items. Any SNAP eligible items a participant orders will qualify them for a matching amount of free fruits and vegetables (up to $10). For example, a $20 order of market items will result in a $10 voucher for free fruits and vegetables. The voucher will be generated for the market bookkeeper and the participant will be charged only $10 at pickup.
The $10 in free food must be fruits and vegetables. Any amount ordered up to $10 will be matched.
