Chancellor Jeff Stewart has announced his retirement effective June 8. Chancellor Stewart has served as Chancellor of the 12th Judicial District (Franklin, Grundy, Marion, Sequatchie, Bledsoe and Rhea Counties) since 1989. During his tenure he has presided over thousands of cases ranging from workers compensation, boundary disputes, domestic relations, commercial litigation, injunctions, adoptions, as well as many other types of disputes. He was first appointed on October 1, 1989, and was then elected in 1990, to an eight year term. He has been re-elected in 1998, 2006, and most recently in 2014.
Chancellor Stewart announced his retirement saying, “The ravages of time, stress, and health has brought on this end of my career. It is time for a younger person with experience and energy to take on the rigors and demands of this judicial position.
“It has been a pleasure to serve and work for the people of the 12th Judicial District. It has truly been an honor for me to have been trusted by them to hold this position. I am truly humbled by the kindness and generosity of the people of this district.”
