Grundy County Sheriff Clint Shrum announced last week that two new school resource officers have been assigned to local schools. The SRO team includes SRO Alan LaLaonde, assigned to Swiss Memorial Elementary School, Palmer Elementary School, and North Elementary School; SRO and newly promoted Sergeant Jeremy Thomas, assigned to Pelham Elementary School, Tracy City Elementary School, and Coalmont elementary School; and SRO Phillips Hobbs, assigned to Grundy County High School. GCHS was the only school that previously had an SRO.
“The addition of two SROs will certainly add to the security of our schools,” stated sheriff Shrum. “While we don’t have an SRO for each school, this is certainly a building block to achieving that goal.”
Sheriff Shrum initiated discussions of placing school resource officers in Grundy County schools last year. Close work with Grundy County Director of Schools Glenda Dykes and the Grundy County Commission have made implementation of the plan possible.
