A total of 31 elementary school students attended the Lady Yellow Jackets volleyball camp Saturday, Jan. 7 at Ricky Richards Gym.
The Lady Yellow Jackets volleyball team recently hosted a one-day elementary school volleyball camp at Grundy County High School’s Ricky Richards Gym.
A total of 31 fourth through eighth grade students from across the county attended the Jan. 7 camp to hone their skills for the upcoming Mountain Valley Volleyball League season.
The camp, hosted by GCHS volleyball head coach Seann Lewis, assistant coach Angela Thomas and 20 current Lady Jackets volleyballers, focused on the basics. Participants learned about serving, passing, setting and hitting before putting the skills together in competition to end the successful day.
“For this to the first time doing a camp since 2020, I thought we had a great turn out,” Lewis said. “The girls all showed up eager to learn and compete. The future of the Yellow Jacket program looks really good.”
The Mountain Valley is Grundy County’s elementary school volleyball league, and teams start practice Jan. 30. The season begins Feb. 21, and there’s still time for those interested in playing to sign up. Elementary students wishing to play may sign up at their respective school.
Pelham Elementary enters the 2023 MVVL season as its reigning regular-season and tournament champion. Swiss Memorial finished second in both the regular season and tournament last year, and Monteagle and Tracy City tied for fourth in the season standings.
