A group of 13 Grundy County basketball alumni were recognized during the boys’ Homecoming matchup Friday night at Ricky Richards Gym.
The Yellow Jackets and Lady Yellow Jackets, in partnership with the GCHS Sports Hall of
Fame, honored members of the 2013, 2003, 1993, 1963 and 1953 basketball teams at halftime of the contest against Community High School.
Terrance Bramhall and Trevor Hampton represented the 2013 boys’ team, while Michael Ladd was a member of the 2003 boys’ roster. Marilu Ladd Brewer, Sarah Rymer and Crystal Braden were members of the 2003 girls’ basketball team, and Matthew Layne, Bryan Melton, Kellie Lusk and Becky Morrison Russo all lettered in 1993. GCHS Sports Hall of Famer Louie Ladd, a member of the 1963 boys’ team, received a warm welcome, and Margie Sanders Ramey and Lucretia “Sis” Cannon Layne received a standing ovation as the two stood on the court for the 1953 girls’ basketball team.
“It was great to see classes from 10, 20, 30, 60 and 70 years ago all recognized,” GCHS Sports
Hall of Fame chairman David Lowrie said. “Basketball Homecoming was a fantastic opportunity to honor these alumni. We hope to grow this each year and welcome back more former student-athletes from every sport to be recognized.”
The GCHS Sports Hall of Fame is expected to meet soon to begin discussing its upcoming induction class. Public nominations are now being accepted and can be submitted online. Nominations can be sent to GCHSSportsHOF@gmail.com or in a private message to the Hall’s Facebook and Instagram pages (@GCHSSportsHOF).
