Softball season ends in tourney

The Lady Jackets softball season came to an end this weekend in the District Tournament. In the first game of the tournament, the Lady Jackets beat Bledsoe County 8-4 to advance in the tournament. Their next two games were a 14-2 loss against Marion County and a 15-5 loss against Cumberland County to close out their season.
“Unfortunately we weren’t able to make the noise in the tournament that we hoped to make. We started off really well against Bledsoe and played virtually error free defense. But we just couldn’t sustain that throughout the tournament. Defensive errors kept us from being able to stay in the games and keep them close. We knew going in, that to be competitive we would have to play cleanly and we just didn’t.
“I can say that the majority of the problems we faced this year were not hustle related, we just simply didn’t keep focus on one thing at a time. I am very proud of the girls this year. Although we didn’t post the numbers we wanted to, there never was a day that we as coaches didn’t want to work with them. The attitudes were good, and they really wanted to improve all year.
“Kara, Liz, Kristin and Teah each brought something different to the group, and every one of them will be missed. They have been a great group of seniors to work with, and we are excited about their next phase in life.
“As we prepare for next season, we saw some really promising things from some younger girls and we will begin work this summer getting them ready for next season. Thank you to all of the parents and fans that supported these girls and the team this year,” said Coach Evans.
