Grundy softball seen plenty of field time last week playing 2 regular season games and 4 games in the Lookout Valley Tournament. The Lady Jackets lost to Whitwell 8-2 and picked up their only win for the week against South Pittsburg 13-12. In the tournament, the Lady Jackets lost all 4 games falling to Silverdale Academy 6-2, Redbank 19-0, Whitwell 9-2 and Lookout Valley 7-5.

“Right now we are still struggling with a lot of inexperience. Defensively we are getting much better. We have been able to cut down on our errors and that has allowed us to be much more competitive against some quality teams. Offensively, we worked hard this past week on being more aggressive at the plate and it really paid off with an increase in hits, but timely hitting is still a problem for us. We are leaving to many runners stranded in scoring position.

“I’m really pleased with the improvement our young players have made in the short time we have been able to work with them. Our juniors and seniors are really carrying us right now with their play and attitudes and we are striving to improve.

“Bailee has been pitching really well for us… well enough to win if we can eliminate the errors and play solid defense. I’m looking forward to the next few weeks to see what this team is going to become,” stated Coach Evans.
