Sheriff-elect Clint Shrum announces some planned changes for the sheriff’s office beginning September 1. Some of these changes will be temporary and others will be executed on a permanent basis.
The first major change will be the implementation of more frequent and stringent court security measures. Those who are scheduled for court should plan to arrive at the courthouse early enough to pass through security. Court begins at 9:00 a.m.
The second major change is the temporary suspension of inmate visitation. Shrum stated due to the condition of the jail, and the fact a handful of inmates are still farmed out, this is absolutely necessary to ensure a smooth and safe transition for both the corrections staff and inmates. Inmate visitation is tentatively expected to get back underway on or before the week of September 22. Inmate item drop-off dates will continue on Tuesday and Thursday but the hours will change to 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The administrative office will be closed on Monday, September 1 in observance of Labor Day. The office will re-open at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday September 2. While Shrum is aware this might cause a temporary inconvenience for some, he asks for your patience and understanding during the first few weeks of this transition period.
