Grundy County Sheriff Clint Shrum released the following county crash information last week:
In 2018, there was a 23-percent reduction in total crashes. Fatalities were unchanged from 2017, with a single fatal crash on the interstate. There were no country road fatalities

• 111 total crashes. Down from 145 from in 2017
• 26 injury crashes. Down from 33 in 2017
• 85 property damage crashes. Down from 112 in 2017
According to the National Safety Council report on the economic and comprehensive cost of crashes, the significance of this reduction results in a total economic savings of $337,400, and a total comprehensive savings of over 2.1 million dollars. These figures take into consideration the loss of productivity, medical costs, property damage, administrative fees, and the loss of quality of life.
“Our goal for 2019 is to have less than 100 total crashes and no fatalities,” commented Sheriff Clint Shrum.
