With the approval of the 2015-2016 budget, the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office will begin the application process for filling for the 14 additional correctional officer positions and a part-time cook that is needed to operate the new detention center. This does not include the currently vacant position.

Clint Shrum“We want to select the best applicants, so this is going to be a very time consuming process,” explained Sheriff Clint Shrum.

Shrum stated the plan is to hire seven men and seven women for the 14 open positions. “We will hire in waves of four. Once these correctional officers are on board, we will begin the process of training them as well as our tenured staff.”

Applicants must be 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED with no felony criminal history. The Tennessee Corrections Institute has agreed to host a correctional officers training class in Grundy near the end of March. While no completion date has been given for the new detention center, Shrum expects to start the move-in process by May 2016.
