Seth Layne, of Tracy City, beat out five other finalists to become the winner of Grundy’s Got Talent on Saturday, at the Caverns. Taking the stage, he performed three original songs, the first of which, “Kids from the Sticks,” he dedicated to his former and current students at Tracy City Elementary School.
The pool of talent ran deep. The finalists included the Rich Mahan Band, Jason Lee Wilson and James County, Locked and Loaded, Daniel Troutman, the Monty Hill Band, and Layne. Layne was the only solo artist and performed with his ukulele.
Mike Partin, SVEC President/CEO, emceed the event and kept the audience entertained between sets. While the judges were determining the winner, Partin encouraged the audience to pick a crowd favorite by a show of applause. It was close, between Layne and the Monty Hill Band, with Layne coming out on top as crowd favorite.
Layne took home an array of prizes including a paid performing spot opening for a national headliner at The Caverns in 2020, a featured appearance on GCTV’s production of the full concert, and a professionally directed and edited, multi-camera shoot of one song in the competition for promotional and publicity use.
