Lusk appointed chairperson
The Grundy County School Board met Monday evening to vote for a new chairperson, debate the hiring of a new football coach, and the discuss implementation of a superintendent evaluation tool.
At the meeting, board member Phyllis Lusk was voted in as the new chairperson. Lusk fills the open spot left by the resignation of Bobby Foster in November. Foster stated in his resignation letter that he was disappointed in the direction the school board was taking and the in-fighting that existed between board members and Director of Schools Jessie Kinsey.
As for a new football coach, the board directed Kinsey to narrow the applicants for the coaching position to three, and present those names to board. Kinsey says she hopes to have a new coach on board by January.
Board member Gary Don Melton stated that a budget review would be necessary in conjunction with the hiring of a new coach.
“If we bring a coach on board mid-school year, we’ve got to be able to pay him and the current supplement was for the previous football season,” said Melton. “So, there’s going to be a budget amendment associated with the change, you just don’t know what that is until you size it up and negotiate that pay.”
Lusk said the board supports a superintendent evaluation tool, but the matter was table until a late meeting.
