PREVIOUS ARREST FOR ASSAULT
During that arrest, Grundy County Sheriff Clint Shrum told the Herald that deputies responded with EMS to the Yates residence after receiving a 911 call.
“Yates was not home when deputies arrived,” says Shrum. “However, based on Mrs. Yates statement and injuries, it appeared there was some type of physical altercation. Because Yates could not be found at that moment, we could not determine if he had any injuries or receive a statement from him.”
The sheriff’s office presented information gathered from law enforcement on the scene, EMS, the 911 call, and the injuries sustained by Mrs. Yates to the District Attorney’s Office for review.
“It was determined there was enough evidence to obtain a warrant for domestic assault,” stated Shrum.
A warrant was issued and Yates was arrested for domestic assault.
At the time of the 2015 arrest, Yates was also a school board member. He resigned two months after his arrest. Yates was reelected to the Grundy County School Board in the past election.
