Gavin Roden, a student at Tracy City Elementary School, came out on top last week, winning the 26th Annual Grundy County Spelling Bee. The bee, held at Coalmont Elementary School, highlighted some of the county’s brightest students, each of whom completed multiple rounds and represented their schools well.
In preparation for the countywide spelling bee, students participated in both classroom and schoolwide bees. The top five students from each Grundy County elementary school were then invited to participate in the Grundy County Spelling Bee.
The top winners, including Gavin Roden (first place), North Elementary School’s Will Foster (first runner up), Pelham’s Charlie Buckner (second runner up), and Coalmont’s Savanah Seagroves (third runner up) will now move on to the regional spelling bee in Chattanooga. Savanah, as third runner up, is the team’s alternate and will compete in Chattanooga if one of the other three are unable to attend.
