The American Legion Post 74, along with Tracy City Cub Scout Troop 3212, conducted a flag burning ceremony November 11. When an American flag becomes worn, faded, torn or soiled, it should be retired and destroyed in a dignified manner. The most common way to do this is by fire. The flag(s) are folded and placed on the fire. Following this protocol the Legion members and the Cub Scouts retired and destroyed approximately 30 American flags and numerous flags representing the United States Army, the United States Marine and the United States Coast Guard. Opening prayer was led by Mayor Larry Phipps. Cub Scouts Brentlee and Jaden Gipson led in the Pledge. Cub Scout Jaden Gipson presented the flags to Vice Commander Michael Zdanowski for burning.
