The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office confirms a 67-year-old Gruetli-Laager man was struck and killed by a vehicle overnight Sunday, on Hwy 56, in the Cumberland Heights community. Sheriff Clint Shrum says it appears the man’s vehicle may have broken down and he was walking along side of the road when he was struck.
The victim has been identified as Thomas D. Argo of Gruetli-Laager. According to GCSO, Argo was walking in the middle of the road, and the driver who struck him hit him before he saw him. Argo died later at a local hospital.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. No charges have been filed on the driver.
