PARSONS, MARY “SUE” MERRELL, age 73, of Tracy City, Tennessee, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Southern Tennessee Regional Health System, in Winchester, Tennessee.  She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Barbara Merrell; sister, Peggy Shrum.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Parsons, Tracy City Tennessee; sons, Avery Merrell, Erdie Merrell and Matthew Parsons; brother, Jimmy Merrell; granddaughter, Kesia Merrell.

PICKETT, EARL EDWARD, 93, of Gruetli-Laager, passed away Monday, August 22, 2016 at the hospital in Sewanee. He was born in Gruetli-Laager on October 17, 1922 to Abner Jackson and Beulah Mae Morgan Pickett who preceded him in death along with his son, Don Pickett; brothers, Buford, Harvey and Norman Pickett; sisters, Vivian Melton, Eula Nunley, Laura Hopkins, Ida Mae Sanders and Abbie Burroughs.

He enlisted in the US Army on January 15, 1943 in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. Earl enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and farming. He was employed mostly in the sawmill and timber business.

He is survived by his wife, Willie Mae Braden Pickett; daughters, Rhonda Pickett and Jana (Faron) Crisp; sons, Jeffery (Janine) Pickett and Bradley Pickett; 5 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; a host of loving nieces and nephews.

ZAID, WANDA KAY “BOOGIE”, 53, of Gruetli-Laager, passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2016, at the home of her nephew. She was born in Dunlap, Tennessee on August 31, 1962. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Lois Slatton.

She is survived by her son, Sammy Ray (Kira Frances) Zaid; mother, Hallie Mae Doss Cox; sisters, Lois (Terry) Butcher, Jane (Dale) Hammers, Clair (Guy) Anderson and Julie Doss; brothers, Billy (Teresa) Slatton and Robert Earl Slatton; granddaughters, Azaelyn Arie and Raedyn Eve Zaid;  several nieces and nephews; god-children, Jamiah, Rashaun, Reggie and Ravon.

MYERS, BERNARD, age 84, of Dickson, TN, died August 23, 2016 at Dickson Health and Rehab after a short stay. He was born in Tracy City, Tennessee, son of the late Claude and Argie Ingram Myers. He proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Navy. He was a game warden for over 30 years and after retirement he worked at the Sportsman Store in Dickson. He was of the Methodist faith.

An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting deer, turkey and any creature huntable. He loved spending time on the water fishing. Bernard loved nature and all of God’s beauty. He enjoyed in his spare time spelunking, primitive camping, and hiking. In the years past he taught hunter safety classes and enjoyed sharing his knowledge of the out of doors to others. As a popa to his grandchildren, he taught them to turkey hunt and to call turkeys up and was instrumental in the relocation program of turkeys to Dickson County.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ann Huntington Myers of Dickson, TN, his daughter, Missy Myers Sullivan of Dickson, TN, his three grandchildren, Dawn Cocke Rogers, Will Sullivan and Josh Sullivan, his brother, John K. (Buster) Myers and his wife, Billie Faye of Tracy City, TN and his sister, Helen Myers Kirk of Manchester, TN. He was preceded in death by a brother, James C. Myers and a sister Doris Crawford.

Funeral services were conducted August 26, 2016 from the chapel of the Taylor Funeral Home, Dickson, TN with Bro. Cliett Goodpasture and Bro. Johnny Mitchell, ministers. Place of rest is in the Dickson County Memorial Gardens. Those desiring, memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association or to the National Wild Turkey Federation. FREEMAN, CHARLIE, 79, of Attapulgus, Georgia passed away Thursday, August 25, 2016 at the home of his sister-in-law in Altamont, Tennessee.  He was born in Jasper, Alabama on May 23, 1937 to Henry and Vida Williams Freeman who preceded him in death along with his brothers, Winfred, Willis, Herman, Gilbert, Dock and Jimmy Freeman.

He is survived by his wife, Reba King Freeman; sons, Mitchel (Jewell) Freeman, Gonzales, Louisiana, Neal (Darlene) Freeman, Brinson, GA; daughter, Lena (Fred) Presser, Danville, KY; brothers, John Jr. (Gayree) Freeman, Jasper, AL and Bud (Diane) Freeman, Gulfcoast, AL; grandchildren, Alan, Haley, Macy and Emma Grace; a host of loving nieces and nephews.

CLEEK, HAZEL RUTH, 77, of Gruetli-Laager, passed away Friday, August 27, 2016 at Southern Tennessee Medical Center in Sewanee.  She was a native of Decatur, Tennessee. She was born in Athens, Tennessee on April 12, 1939 to Fred and Linnie Bell Weir Crisp who preceded her in death along with her husband, Mitchel Cleek; brother, Kenneth Crisp; sisters, Iva Lue Oliver and Carolyn Bowman.

She was a member of Laager Methodist Church and had worked at Buster Brown in Chattanooga.

She is survived by her brother, Daniel Crisp; sisters, Helen Clark and Lois Campbell; extended family, Gary “Rooster” and Jan Brewer and children, Kyle (Marilu), Matt (Kacy) and Ben (Kassidi); Harper, Hazely and Brody; several nieces and nephews.

JOHNSON, JOHN WESLEY, 75, of Coalmont, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro. He was born in Tracy City on November 27, 1940 to Roy and Hazel Byers Johnson who preceded him in death along with his brothers, Herman, Carl and Doug Johnson; sisters, Neva Shrum and Zelma Haynes.

He was retired from the Tennessee Department of Transportation and was a member of the Church of Christ at Coalmont.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Hazel Sweeton Johnson; son, Wes (Judy) Johnson Jr.; daughters, Jody (Victor) Wright and Sonya (Tim) Garner; sister, Faye (George) Coppinger; grandchildren, Amanda (Barry), Ian (Cassie), Marina, Collin (Hannah), John W. III, Brandi and Jeremiah; great grandchildren, Brandon, Harlee, Andie, Emily and Hunter; several nieces and nephews.

WILCOX, JEANNIE, LYNN CRANE, 57, of Tracy City, passed away August 19 at her
residence.  A memorial service was held on Wednesday, August 31 at Tracy Lake in Tracy City, TN. Arrangements were provided by Watson-North Funeral Home, Winchester, TN.

 

WILLIAMS, DANNY RAY, SR., 62, of Sequatchie Mtn., died Sunday, August 28, 2016, at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Katherine Rollins Williams; brother, Billy Joe Williams; sisters, Janie Beatrice Williams and Jewelene Williams.

He had worked as a truck driver and mechanic and was a veteran of the US Navy.

Mr. Williams is survived by his wife, “Crickett” Sarah  Cabe Williams; son, Danny Ray Williams, Jr .and fiancée, Cheyenne Sutherland; daughters, Crystal Williams Webb and Brian and Amber Michele Williams and  fiancé, Josh Jackson; Brothers, Bruce (Carol) and  Robert (Reba) Williams; sisters, Jannette Williams Phillips (Tom) Hartsel, Kathy (David) Tate, Edith (Dennis) Cook and Linda (Eddie) Carson; 4 grandchildren, Cameron Williams, Brianna, Ethan and Peyton Webb and mother-in-law, Sarah Cabe.

Graveside funeral services were held at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens, on Wednesday, August 31, 2016. HARGIS, MICHAEL, of Tracy City, Tennessee, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Erlanger Hospital. Funeral services were held on August 28 at the Foster & Lay Chapel. Arrangements were provided by Foster & Lay Funeral Home, Tracy City, TN.
