CARPENTER, VELMA, PAULINE, “POLLY”, age 76 of Sewanee gained her Angel’s wings on Saturday, June 20, 2015. Born in the Jumpoff community, she was a daughter of the late Jay C. Gass and Pressie Gudger Gass. She was married to Ambrose Carpenter who preceded her in death along with her brothers, Vernon, Raymond and Jerry Gass.

Polly loved music and is now singing in Heaven’s choir and she was a caring lady that was devoted to her family.

She is survived by her son, Timothy “Rambo” Carpenter of Sewanee; special friends Crystal Shetters and Haley Wallace of Sherwood and many friends and relatives.

A graveside service was in Franklin Memorial Gardens with Brother James Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 1:00 to 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home. BOWMAN, VERNON, MAYNARD, JR., age 62, of Hickory, NC passed away July 3, 2015 at Catawba Valley Medical Center, Hickory.

He was born August 24, 1952 in Catawba County to the late Vernon Maynard Bowman Sr. and Edith Faye Herman Bowman. Vernon attended Corinth Reformed Church in Hickory and in the image of his Lord and Savior, he was a Master Carpenter over 40 years. Vernon was a hard worker at all he put his hands to do. He was of the old school that you could judge a man by his handshake and it was to be his bond. In his spare time, Vernon enjoyed gardening and fishing but above all, he was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sisters; Wanda Johnston, Joyce Fox, and Jewel Williams.

Vernon is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Sharon Ann Nunley Bowman; son, Rino J. Bowman; daughter, Clarissa Bowman Starnes and husband, Benji; sister, Dorothy Parker, grandchildren, Ethan and Miles Starnes; several nieces and nephews and 2 brother-in-laws.

A Service of Remembrance was held on Monday, July 6, 2015 at Corinth Reformed Church, Hickory with Dr. Bob Thompson officiating.  Memorials may be made to Cooperative Christian Ministries, 31 1st Ave SE, Hickory, NC 28602. BEAN, MILDRED, born December 3, 1938, of Coalmont, Tennessee passed away Sunday, July 5, 2015 at her residence with her family by her side. She is preceded in death by her husband, Stanford (Boy) Bean; parents, Edward and Della Campbell; brothers, JC, Duxie, Bob Alton; grandson, Christopher McDaniel; granddaughter, Brittany Bean and great granddaughter, Chelsie Bean.

She is survived by her children, Diane Byers, Stanford (Teresa) Bean, James Bean, Ronnie (Jackie) Bean, Tina (Randy) McDaniel, and Della (Wayne) Fults; brother, Estes Campbell; sister, Brenda Campbell; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral serviced were held Tuesday, July 7 in the funeral home chapel with Reverend James Caldwell and Reverend John Potts officiating. Burial was in Bonny Oak Cemetery.
