SHORT, LUCY, IRENE, ROSE, age 95, of Monteagle died at the home of her daughter on May 13, 2015.  Irene was the last surviving child of David Martin and Vesta Ann Rose.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, James Albert “Jimmy” Short and her grandson, James Milton “Jim” Alligood.  She was a sister to: Bill Rose (Eunice), Anasta “Honey” Smith (Roy), Violet Ruby “Toot” Layne (Jim), Carson Rose (Gladys Mae), Althea Patten (Dennis), and John Dillon “JD” Rose (Geneva).

Left to cherish her memory are her children:  Betty Alligood (Joe), Freda McCallie, James Dillon Short (Leigh), and Gay Jackson (Joel), her grandchildren: Carrie Roberts (Kenton), Vikki Jacobs (Dana), Tara Short, Marissa Wilson (Brandon), Amanda Jenkins (Logan), her great-grandchildren:  Emily Fant (Mark), Libby Cecchetti, George Cecchetti, Tory Lewis, Tiffany Lewis, Bailey Roberts, Kaylee and Sophia Wilson, as well as, great-great grandchildren, Jaxon and Juliet Fant.  She will also be remembered by numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held on Friday, May 15, 2015 in the Monteagle cemetery with Reverend Jocelyn Bell officiating.

HARRIS, BARBARA, GAIL, age 71, of Monteagle, Tennessee passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2015 in the Willows of Winchester.  She is preceded in death by her by her parents, John and Agnes Metcalfe; siblings, Billy Metcalfe, Jo Ann Cupp, and Linda Cox.  She was a member of the Monteagle First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband Wendell Harris, Monteagle, TN; children, Carl (Lara) Harris, Athens, Sherry (John) Graf, Puyallup, WA, John (Ginger) Harris, Tracy City, TN; sister, Nell Harris, Hixson, TN; Friend and Special Care Giver, Shelly Curtis.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 15, 2015 in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Daryll Smiley officiating. Burial followed in the Monteagle Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Cumberland Funeral Home. Online condolences can be made at www.cumberlandfuneralhome.net. SHERRILL, CLEA, ALLEN, age 52, of Sewanee passed away Sunday, May 10, 2015 at Centennial Hospital in Nashville.  He was born on March 13, 1963 to James William and the late Cleo Dotson Sherrill of Sewanee.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Darla Sherrill.

Clea is survived by his two children David and Katie Sherrill, Sewanee; father James William Sherrill, Sewanee; brother Galon (Cindy) Sherrill, Alto; sisters Brenda (Doug) Woodard, Winchester, Janice Sherrill, Sewanee, Mary (Collis) Gipson, Winchester, Susie Henley, Sewanee, Cathy Sherrill, Sewanee, Tracie Sherrill, Sewanee; nieces and nephews Beth Burton, Estill Springs, Allison (Jason) and Faith Fraker, Christopher and Zoey Harper, Christiana, Clay Aleigh, and Reagan Sherrill, Estill Springs, Amanda (Kevin), Alexis, Dylan, Harley, and Jacob McClure, Winchester, Keith Henley, Sewanee, Jonathan and Jesse Henley, Sewanee; and his extended family of the Sewanee Volunteer Fire Department.

Clea worked as a groundsman, dispatcher, and a lab coordinator, but his greatest passion was being a Volunteer Firemen for the Sewanee Volunteer Fire Department, where he proudly served for 34 years.  He was a captain with the department, managed the radios for both fire and police, and was the engineer behind the SVFD fireworks shows.  Clea’s other interests included watching UT football and going on his annual Labor Day camping trip.

Services were held Wednesday, May 13, 2015 in the funeral home chapel with Preacher James Ed Collins officiating, burial followed in Eastern Star Cemetery. LECROY, DONNA, ELIZABETH, age 72, of Palmer, went to her heavenly home, Sunday, May 17, 2015.  She was a member of Laager Congregational Methodist Church.  Donna was born in Palmer, Tennessee on September 15, 1942 to Barney and Estell Brown Shadrick who preceded her in death along with her husband, Larry T. LeCroy; son, Darin LeCroy; sisters, Mae Ellen Shadrick, Mildred Parsons and Johnny Trussell; brothers, Barney Shadrick Jr., Joe Brannon Shadrick and Dwight L. Shadrick. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Rhonda LeCroy, grandsons, Zackary and Thomas Edward LeCroy; caregiver, Kristina Johnson; brother, Mike (Mary Ruth) Shadrick; sister, Novell Patton; daughter, Kristi Fults; granddaughters, Katie and Bethany Fults; 4 great-granddaughters; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Ministers Alex Rollins and John Potts officiating. Burial followed in the Fall Creek Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.

 

LAYMAN, CHARLES, VERNON, “CHUCK”, age 73, of Beersheba Springs passed away Saturday May 16, 2015 at the home of his sister.  He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on October 13, 1941 to Clyde and Jean Walton Layman who preceded him in death.  He retired from IBM in Manassas, Virginia and again from Yurozo at Morrison, Tennessee in 2013.  He attended Purdue College in West Lafayette Indiana. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Brown Layman; sons, Greg (Robin) Layman and Christopher (Millie) Layman; step-children, Shay (Brenda) Rankhorn and Shelia Allphin; 7 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sisters, Jo Ann (Jim) McCollum and Catherine Marshall; brothers, Richard (Judy), Roy (Charlotte) and Russell (Jane) Layman. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:30 PM Saturday May 23, 2015 at the People of the Living God Church followed by a private burial for the family only.  In lieu of flowers a gift for medical expenses would be appreciated.  Arrangements were made by Layne Funeral Home, Altamont, TN.

 

SISSOM, DAN, JACK, age 76, of Palmer passed away Thursday May 14, 2015 at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga.  He was a carpenter, member and past master of the Sewanee Lodge #405 F & AM at Tracy City and of the Methodist faith. He was born in Palmer, Tennessee on December 24, 1938 to Pascal and Mildred Byers Sissom who preceded him in death along with his sister, Jessie Ruth Hartwell; brothers, Pascal Jr., Brian and Glen Sissom.  He is survived by his wife, Winnie Lockhart Sissom; daughters, Kathy Diann Cantu’ and Susan (Jeff) Sissom Colston; sister, Della (Doug) Tate; grandchildren, Alexandra, Jacquelyn, Lauren and Ross; several nieces and nephews.  Funeral services were held Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Ministers, John Potts and John Kennedy officiating. Burial followed in the Palmer Cemetery.  Arrangements were made by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.

 

MEDLEY, EDWARD, LEE, “EDD”, age 83, of Estill Springs passed away Saturday afternoon at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville, TN. He was a custodian for the Coffee County Schools and a member of New Brick Church of Christ. A graveside service was held Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at New Brick Church Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Manchester Funeral Home, Manchester, TN.
