HILL, CHARLES, D., SR., “BIG DON”, age 76, of Beersheba Springs, passed away Sunday April 19, 2015 in the early hours after a day of work, singing and speaking.  He was a US Army veteran and owner of Big Don’s Market.  He was a member of AA and talented musician. He served as funeral escort for the Grundy County Sheriff’s Department and was a member of the Cumberland Baptist Church and was writing a book about the Churches in Grundy County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard A. Hill and Thelma Ruth Rollins Hill.  He is survived by his wife Ruby Lee Hill; daughters, Kathy (Allen) Griffith and  Lisa Hill (Johnny) Rodriguez; sons, Ricky (Diana) Hill and Charles D. (Nicole) Hill Jr.; brother Raymond Hill; sister; Linda Gayle Hill; 9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; step-children, Ronnie (Katrina) Preston, Angie (Jerry Don) Powell and Jennifer (Jim) Baxter; 8 step-grandchildren. Big Don’s personal wish was to be buried at the Schield Cemetery in Beersheba Springs privately with no public service and in his funeral documents he stated “May God be with you all until we meet again in heaven where I know I shall be”. KING, GLEMA, ANN, of Beersheba Springs, passed away Wednesday April 16, 2015 at a Nashville Hospital.  She was born in Smithville, Tennessee and attended the Killian’s Chapel Church.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Naile Braswell Sailors; sister, Ruby Naile Ferrell; brothers, James Orbin and Buster Sailors. She is survived by her husband, Eddie L. King; daughter, Elizabeth “Libby” King; sister, Joyce Farless; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Ministers, Nathan Jones and Russell Irvin officiating. Burial followed in the King Cemetery at Tarlton Valley. Arrangements were made by Layne Funeral Home, Altamont, TN.

 

BIVENS, JONATHAN, age 62, of Palmer, passed away Saturday April 18, 2015 at the hospital in Sewanee, Tennessee.  He was born in Gruetli-Laager, TN to Marshall and Doris Carrick Bivens who preceded him in death along with his daughters, Miranda Bivens and Pam Nolan.  He attended Bivens Chapel Congregational Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Dellene Kenner Bivens; son, Leo (April) Bivens; daughter, Betsy Carol Gann; brothers, Tommy and Doyle (Angela) Bivens; sisters, Denise Bivens, Gail Burnett and Lucy Parson; 4 grandchildren, Dylan, Christian, Cody and Becky; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Ministers Larry Campbell and Jeremy Robinson officiating. Burial followed in the Burketts Chapel Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.

 

HAMPTON, OTIS, age 81 of the Skymont Community Passed away at his home Friday April 17, 2015 with his family near. He attended the Altamont Church of Christ and was a heavy equipment mechanic.  He was born in Guntersville, AL on May 10, 1933 to Eugene and Lois Dendy Hampton who preceded him in death along with his son, Russell Hampton; brothers, J.C., L.D. and H.L. Hampton; grandson, Mark Hampton; great-grand-daughter, Brooke Lynn Hampton. He is survived by his wife, Ann Thompson Hampton; sons, Mitchel (Rebecca), Mack (Cissy), Tony (Dale) and Parker (Sandra) Hampton; step-children, Carolyn Burdeshaw, James Sharpe, Jill (Ben) Pena and Barbie (Mike) Brannin; brother, James Hampton; sisters, Mamie Barrett, Katherine Hobbs, Betty Jean Meeks and Ola Jo Barrett; 23 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Ministers, Joe Gray and Dal Barrett officiating. Burial followed at the Airview Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Layne Funeral Home, Altamont, TN.

 

MEEKS, SHIRLEY, SANDERS, age 78, of Tracy City, Tennessee passed away Sunday morning, April 19, 2015 at her home. She was a daughter of the late Wallace and Hester Gibbs Sanders and was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred D. Meeks; brothers, Marvin and Melvin Sanders and Wallace Sanders, Jr. Shirley was a well-known furniture upholster and had many customers and friends over the years.

She is survived by her sisters, Ruth Stiefel and Nadine Reid Grubbs and a brother, Buford Sanders all of Tracy City; several nieces and nephews.

LAYNE, RICKY, GENE, JR., age 27, of Palmer, passed away Sunday April 19, 2015 at his home in Ringgold, GA. He was employed by Budget Brakes. He was born in Huntsville, TX on July 9, 1987.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Pamela Jean Goins, Carl William Haynes, Ray and Lela Layne. He is survived by his mother, Shona (Rick) Basham, father, Rick (Pat) Layne; companion and her children, Kimberly Knight, Kiyona, Kiaira and James Knight; brothers, Justin Graham, John, Jessie and Hank Basham; sisters, Alysia Layne, Vicki (Brian) Cochran, Jennifer (Chris) Hall; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services were held Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Minister Danny Coffelt officiating. Burial followed in the Fall Creek Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.
