TATE, LISA, JANE, age 53, of Monteagle, Tennessee, passed away Monday, October 28, 2013 at Hospice Care Center in Chattanooga, TN. She was preceded in death by her father Thomas Preston King. Survivors include her loving husband Mr. Tim Tate; her mother, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth O’Dear King; children, Andrea (Jermey Thomas) Tate of Monteagle; Maria Johnson of Tracy City; Rebecca (Tim) Graham of Rossville, GA; and Aaron Tate of Monteagle; brothers and sisters, Thomas Jeffery King, Clinton (Doris) King, Marlan (Leroy) McBee; Joyce (Bill) Sells; Mary (Red) Miller,; and Doris (Lewis) Haney, all of Sewanee; 11 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Services were held Saturday, November 2 in the chapel of Cumberland Funeral Home with Reverend Homer Dudley officiating. Burial was in O’Dear Cemetery, Sewanee, TN. SWEETON, EDITH, “TABBY,” 95, passed away at the home of her daughter Saturday, November 2, 2013. She was born in Palmer, Tennessee on February 15, 1918 to Hence and Rosa Fults Layne who preceded her in death along with her husband, Ernest Sweeton; brothers, Pascal, Orace and Lee Layne; sisters, Mildred Ross, Nola Henderson, Clara Layne, Hester King and Fairy Mae Layne; grandsons, Eddy Wayne Turner and James Ernest Cawley; 2 great grandchildren. She is survived by her sons, Jimmy, Jerry (Jeweldean) and Jackie Sweeton; daughters, Jewel Gipson, Jean (Kenneth) Turner, Joyce (Robert) Cawley and Janice Nolan; 23 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; a host of loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 5 in the funeral home chapel. Burial was in Altamont Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Layne Funeral Home, Altamont, TN.

HILL, NELLIE, KATHERINE, age 68, of Monteagle, TN, went to be with the Lord on November 2, 20134 at Emerald Hodgson Hospital in Sewanee, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents Harvey and Edna Nunley; brothers, Dee Nunley and Stanley Nunley; half-brother, Wesley Nunley; half-sister, Maudie Ray; brother-in-law, Pat Fredrick. Survivors include her loving husband, Mr. Larry Hill; children, Larry Heath Hill and fiancé Melinda; Tammy Annette Brown and husband Bruce; brothers and sister, Robert (Sadonna) Nunley, Lloyd (Willie Mae) Nunley, Albert (Carol) Nunley, Don (Cindy) Nunley, and Mary (Bet) Fredrick; sister-in-law, Anita Joan (Phil) Zimmerman; 5 grandchildren, Christina Lynn Hill, Lilly Michelle Leiderman, Tyler Jade Hill, A.J. Proctor, and Brandon Heath Hill; great grandchildren, Lauren Taylor Haynes and Brookelyn Autumn Bryant. ASHBY, Y.B., 92, of Gruetli-Laager, TN, 92, died Sunday, November 3, 2013 at Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville. He was born in Madisonville, Texas on March 3, 1921 to Yancy Barton and Nettie Crutchfield Ashby who preceded him in death along with his step-mother, Nellie Ashby; brothers, Robert and Orvil; sister, Ruth. He was a member of the Altamont Church of Christ and had preached for 55 years serving several congregations. He was owner of Ashby Printing and Trophies, founder of the Grundy County Veterans Historical Society and was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lea Wright Ashby; daughters, Donna (Mark) Ward, Murphy, NC and Linda Ashcraft, Gruetli-Laager, TN; grandchildren, Tami (Don) Freitas, Jennifer (Ed) Anderson, Bethany Ashby, Phillip Ashby and Jason Ashcraft; great grandchildren, Destiny (AJ) Noe, Teron Nunley, Richie Freitas, Devin and Turner Ashby; 1 great-great grandson, Izaiah Noe. Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 6 in the funeral home chapel with Ministers Ray Winton, Joe Gray and Phillip Fults officiating. Burial was in Swiss Colony Cemetery with military honors provided by the Sequatchie Valley Honor Guard. Arrangements were made by Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, TN.

DOUGLAS, BRAYDEN, ISIAH, born October 28, 2013, passed away October 30, 2013 at Parkridge E. Medical Center. He is survived by his parents, Kasie Henley and Brice Douglas; maternal grandparents, Melinda and Glenn Henley; paternal grandparents, Robin (Billy) White and George Douglas; twin brother, Bentley Douglas; aunts/uncles, Kayla (Craig) McBee, Mary Douglas and Victor (Sophia) Douglas; and cousin, Bevyn McBee. Visitation will be 1-2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 10, 2013 at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with graveside services at 2:00 p.m. at Franklin Memorial Gardens. HENLEY, CLAUDE, WILLIS, age 80, of Decherd, TN, passed away November 3, 2013. He was born June 5, 1933 and a native of Grundy County, Tennessee. Mr. Henley was a prominent businessman in Franklin, Grundy, Coffee and Rutherford Counties. His business accomplishments include establishing Henley Supply, Inc., continuing the family business of Greeter Lumber Co. in Altamont, Tennessee, and being one of the founders of Citizens Community Bank. He was an active county/community leader.  He resided in the Alto Community for many years where he enjoyed farming and raising livestock.  Mr. Henley was preceded in death by his parents, Claude C. and Fannie Willis Henley; infant child, Claudia Henley; brother, William Sam Henley; and sisters, Janie Medley and Frances Howard.  Surviving are wife, Joyce Greeter Henley; son, Sam W. (Vicki) Henley; daughters, Dr. Joy Henley McKee, Fayna Henley (Jeff) Sargent and Christina Henley (Phillip) Duncan; sister, Bobbie VanHooser; grandchildren, Willis McKee, Robert McKee, Jared Henley, Dillon Henley, Laura Henley, Forrest Duncan, and Hence Duncan. Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 6, in the Moore-Cortner Chapel with Bro. Ed Boggess and Rev. Clayton Jones officiating. Interment was in Mt. Garner Cemetery, Decherd, TN. Memorial contributions may be made to the Claude Henley Memorial Scholarship Fund at Citizens Community Bank, 1418 Dinah Shore Blvd, Winchester, TN  37398.
