Two organizations will be joining forces in Grundy County on Feb. 9 in an effort to ease the burden on parents and assist children.
“Save the Children is beyond excited to host a day of giving with Mother to Mother,” said Crystal Stiefel, Early Childhood Coordinator for Grundy County.
Nashville-based Mother To Mother has been working for almost two decades to ensure all children in the community have access to three basic essentials that often slip through the cracks of government subsidies and charitable support, such as diapers, car seats and a safe place to sleep.
That organization will provide those same necessities in Grundy.
“Mother to Mother will be providing car seats, diapers, cribs and other essential resources to the public here,” said Stiefel. Save the Children serves 20 families, from prenatal to 3-year-olds in Grundy County. The program consists of 2 home visits a month where we provide developmental screening and developmentally appropriate books, activities and resources. Once a month we have parent/child groups where all the families join together for lots of fun activities.
Other organizations are also being invited to attend and provide resources/information. Among those are Health Connect America, A Step Ahead Chattanooga, Southeast Community Registered Nurse Navigator, etc.
“This is a free event,” said Stiefel. “My goal is to help our local families.”
Items are limited, so it will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. The event is outdoors and weather permitting. Parents are asked to bring their own bags to carry items.
A Day of Giving, hosted by Save the Children Grundy in partnership with Mother to Mother, will be held at Gruetli-Laager Community Center on Feb. 9, from 12-2 p.m. The center is located at 27804 SR-108 in Gruetli Laager.
Save the Children is not based on family income. To enroll, contact Crystal Stiefel at crystal.stiefel@grundy12.com
