Grundy County’s 1969-70 girls’ basketball team was one of the most dominant squads in program history. The 22-win season saw the Lady Jackets put together a 10-game winning streak to begin the year and two tournament-title runs. Now, the group is set to become the sixth team inducted into the GCHS Sports Hall of Fame.

Led by Hall of Fame coach Edd Cantrell and captained by seniors Cindy Church and Jonny Rose Sanders Conry during the six-on-six era, the Jackets won the Sequatchie Valley Conference Tournament, District 12 regular season and district tournament championships en route to an appearance in the region tournament. Karen Church Gipson rounded out the trio of starting seniors, and Junior Sheila Meeks Gallagher was the team’s leading scorer, totaling 637 points.
