The Tennessee district of the National Bass Fishing Trail (NBT) will begin their 2016 season February 20, on Tims Ford out of the Devils Step ramp. The adult and junior trail will host six one day tournaments this season additionally on Nickajack, Center Hill, Guntersville, Normandy and Woods Reservoir. The group will hold their two-day championship on Neely Henry Lake out of Gadsden, Alabama.
BT is the only organization that holds both adult and junior tournaments at the same time. While an adult is not required to bring a youth member fishing those that do can help mentor young fisherman into the constantly growing sport of tournament bass fishing.
The local district has been very successful since the organization’s inception by producing four NBT Junior National Champions, five NBT Junior Anglers of the Year, one NBT Adult National Champion and that angler has been NBT Adult Angler of the Year twice.
The NBT district was the foundation for building the Grundy County High School fishing team and many of the team’s members have come up through the youth ranks of NBT. Two of those are currently fishing in college and one is on a fishing scholarship.
NBT is a very family oriented group and puts a strong focus on the youth program. If you have a youngster who’s interested in tournament fishing NBT is the perfect league to try. No matter how they finish in tournaments juniors always receive a tackle pack of baits to help build their gear and reward them for working hard on the water.
