Mountain Lions Extinguish Heat

The TN Heat came to St. Andrews-Sewanee, Friday, September 8th and ran into a sizzling Mountain Lion football team as they fell to their host 52-0. It was the second consecutive shutout for the Mountain Lion defense as they extinguished the Heat from the start. SAS is now 3-0 on the season.
Junior placekicker Gabriel Stevens got the scoring start with a 22 yard field goal at the 5:15 mark of the first quarter. The Mountain Lions got the ball back quickly and :48 after the first points, senior QB Dustin Stensby hit fellow senior Bailey McLean for a 20 yard scoring strike. Stevens booted the extra point and the Mountain Lions led 10-0 after one quarter.
While the defense stymied the Heat, the offense led by Emanuel Thombs and his two touchdown romps and another touchdown by Stensby put the Mountain Lions ahead 30-0 at the half.
Stensby raced 34 yards with 5:05 left in the half. Thombs got in the scoring parade with runs of 15 and 54 yards. Stevens connected on two of the three PAT conversions and the Mountain Lions were well on their way to victory number three.
The third quarter saw the defense pick up where they left off in the first half. Less than a minute into the third stanza, Jalen Tillman recorded a safety. With less than a minute left in the third, Stevens picked off an errant aerial and returned 47 yards for the pick six. Stensby added a 30 yard touchdown jaunt at the 9:05 mark of the third as the offense did their part in the second half as well. Stevens was one of two on PAT conversions in the third.
The fourth quarter, with a running clock, saw the Mountain Lions tack on one more touchdown. Senior Blaise Zeitler, who led the Mountain Lions with 114 yards rushing, scampered 36 yards to paydirt with 8:47 remaining in the contest. Stevens nailed his fifth PAT conversion kick to conclude the scoring.
Defensively, the Mountain Lions limited the Heat to 9 yards on the ground and 17 through the air. They yielded a total of 26 yards on 41 plays and had 4 interceptions.
Justin Elgouhary let the hit parade with 9 total hits. He had 7 solo tackles and 2 assist. Tillman was close behind with 8 tackles with 6 of them being solo tackles and he had 2 assists. Tillman also recorded a safety and recovered a fumble. Senior Steven Zhu, Thombs, and Zeitler had 5 stops each. Zhu had 2 interceptions. Jarrett Willis had 4 hits and a fumble recovery. Ben Matthews and Stevens had three tackles. Thombs had an interception and Stevens had a pick six. Stensby had 2 tackles. Laurenz Schmacher, kip Barksdale, Kenan Higgins, and Cameron Harmon each had one tackle.
Offensively, Zeitler had 114 yards on 8 carries and a touchdown. Stensby carried the ball 10 times for 98 yards. He was 1-3 for 20 yards through the air, scored 2 rushing touchdowns and threw one. Thombs had 79 yards on only 3 carries and 2 touchdowns. Jack Simons gained 16 yards on 5 carries, while Matthews added 9 tards on 3 totes. MCLean had the lone catch for 20 yards and a touchdown.
