The St. Andrews – Sewanee Mountain Lion football team ended their 2018 season on a sour note as they lost 56 – 8 to their arch rivals, The Webb School Feet in Bell Buckle, last Friday night. The Feet finished the regular season undefeated. The Mountain Lions ended their season with a 2 – 6 record.
The Feet scored two touchdowns in the opening quarter and added three more in the second quarter to lead 34 – 0 at intermission. The second half wasn’t any better as the hosts scored two more touchdowns in the third quarter and added a touchdown in the fourth, before SAS finally dented the scoreboard. Junior Thomas Stapleton raced 49 yards to pay dirt for the Mountain Lions lone touchdown. Senior Jarett Willis ran in the two point conversion for the final score of the game with 5:06 left in the game.
Stapleton led the offense with 97 yards on nine carries. Freshman Deandre Tate added 94 yards on 11 carries. Defensively, junior Cailan McLean led the team with five tackles. Senior Jalen Tillman had four tackles. Seniors Spencer Davis, Ben Matthews, and Randy Paul, along with Tate, had two tackles each.
So the Mountain Lions closed out a disappointing 2018 season, however the last four games they played before the finale were the best they played. It was a relative young team that went through several injuries. They were playing their fifth QB in the season finale.
