City names new chief, assistant chief

At Monday evening’s Monteagle City Council meeting, the new fire chief and assistant fire chief were introduced. This ended a week of worry by Monteagle citizens as the city was left without a fire department when former chief Mike Holmes was terminated as a member of the fire department and all 15 volunteer firemen stepped down.
Geron Brewer is now the chief of the volunteer fire department and serving under him is Matt Underhill, a former captain with the department, as assistant chief. Underhill explained at the meeting that they currently have 10 firefighters who have returned to the job.
Underhill stated that Monteagle residents were covered “100 percent” and that the members of the fire department hope to work with the city to move forward.
