Meth Ring Cracked in Marion County: UPDATE

UPDATE:

March 26, 2015 – Grundy County Sheriff Clint Shrum has detailed the role the Sheriff’s Office played in the recent  meth ring bust, including how GC residents were apprehended.

“We have been working with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives since September 2014 on this case,” says Shrum. “The ATF brought it to our attention. we were briefed, and became a part of the investigation.”

Tiffany Hatter was arrested in her Gruetli-Laager home as a part of the roundup on Wednesday, March 25.

“A search warrant was served at the Hatter home and deputies and agents found what is believed to be ‘ice’ or crystal methamphetamine; a handgun, and some property was seized,” stated Shrum. “Others arrested on the mountain include Charles Meeks of Tracy City and Kevin Denny. Denny was with Meeks at his home when the arrest warrants were served. No search warrant was issued for property belonging to Charles Meeks.”

Jeremy Toro, of Tracy City was already in the Grundy County Jail. He was picked up a few nights before the bust and charged with possession of stolen property ( a four-wheeler).

 

 

 The Bureau of Alcohol  Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, with the Marion County Sheriff’s Department and other local agencies, has cracked a major meth ring resulting in 22 arrests.  

The arrests, made Wednesday, covered nine counties in Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama with the operation centered in Marion County.

 

The investigation resulted in two separate grand jury indictments which includes charges of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, distribution of methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, and possession of a firearm by prohibited people.meth-bust-440x320

In addition to ATF and the Marion County Tennessee Sheriff’s Office, state and local law enforcement agencies who assisted with the arrests include: the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation; Tennessee Highway Patrol; Dade County Georgia Sheriff’s Office; Grundy County Tennessee Sheriff’s Office; Jackson County Alabama Sheriff’s Office; Loudon County Tennessee Sheriff’s Office; Murray County Georgia Sheriff’s Office; Sequatchie County Tennessee Sheriff’s Office; Warren County Tennessee Sheriff’s Office; Monteagle Tennessee Police Department; and Chattanooga Tennessee Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Terra Bay will represent the United States.
