More than 400 grandparents and grand-friends attended Monteagle Elementary School’s Grandparents Day celebration. Fourth grade student Noah Layne provided musical entertainment and seventh grader Dhara Patel honored the grandparents with the reading of a poem. A candle was lit and a moment of silence was observed for grandparents who are no longer with the school family.
This year’s theme, “Grandparents are Super Heroes,” was a big hit with the students and the grandparents. Most of the students and faculty dressed as their favorite super hero to honor the grandparents.
Miss Emily Ruth, the school art teacher, and several helpers including some students, worked hard to draw and paint popular superheroes used as backdrops for photographs. Favorite superheroes dropped in and took the time to have their pictures made with the school’s young superheroes.
The PTO treated the grandparents to “power” snacks and the students presented them with certificates and honored them with crafts.
Grandparents Day has long been a favorite celebration at MES, and the school feels this year’s event showcased the love and gratitude they have for their students and grandparents. The school would like to thank the faculty, staff, and PTO for helping to make this year’s event so special.
