Tom Banks has made his home on the mountain since 2006. He is a realtor, and loves spending time in the outdoors.
“I am originally from McDonough, Georgia,” says Tom. “I moved to the mountain in 2006, but we have always had a vacation home here. I have traveled back and forth my whole life. My parents are Ray and Deb Banks, and I have an older brother, Ben.
“I graduated from Grundy County High School in 2010. I had great teachers who inspired me to get where I am today. I have since attended Motlow State Community College, where I am in the process of getting my master’s in business.
“Straight out of high school, I went to work for Illinois Connection, a whitetail game operator in Mt. Sterling. I worked there for five years, the last two as a head guide.
“From there, I was associated with turnkey lodge sales and land sales. Both my parents, and my grandmother Jeanette Banks, had been in the real estate field for many years selling homes and land. That is how I decided on my current position as an affiliate broker for Monteagle Sewanee Realtors. I have had my real estate license for a year and have loved every minute of it!”
Tom says real estate can be stressful, but he enjoys the flexible hours.
“I set my showings when buyers are available, this almost always involves giving up your weekends.
“I try to stay as active in the community as possible. I have volunteered the use of my event hall, Tom’s Place in Monteagle, for several Mountain Goat Trail events. I plan to host more of these types of events in the future as the trail progresses.
“My family and I have donated land to further the success of the trail. I also was a member of the Palmer Fire Department for a few years.”
Tom is married to Dara Banks.
“I have an amazing wife. We married in September of 2014. I have a stepdaughter, Zoe Harrison, and we just gained a new addition to our family, our daughter Hudson Kenlee, born October 10.
Tom says his favorite thing about the mountain is the weather.
“You get the full effect of all four seasons here. Especially fall, which I like because I love to deer hunt. There is nothing like spending time in a tree in the fall chasing whitetails or chasing a hammering gobbler on a cool spring morning. I love it, particularly if there is a kid getting to take it all in.
“My favorite thing to do in my free time is spend time with my family.”
Tom says it might surprise people he is a great cook, especially on the grill.
And, what is on his playlist?
“Currently I am listening to Justin Moore’s ‘Wheels,’ along with Eric Church, Jason Aldean, Cole Swindell, and Luke Bryan.”
