Misty Patel, originally from India, has made the mountain her home. A business owner, she loves Grundy County and the people who live here.
When did you come to Grundy County? “I moved here in 2001 from Gujarat, India. I live in Tracy City. I wanted to come because I liked America and I really like Tracy City and the mountain.”
Can you tell us about your family? “Yes, I am married to Shammy Patel. We have two children, Shiv and Bansari. My brother, Andy, is also here.”
Most people know you as the owner and operator of the Grundy Market. However, you have other businesses in the area. “We do. My husband and I have the Grundy Market and the BP in Tracy City. We own the Monteagle Shell service station and the Sewanee Market.”
The Grundy Market is expanding. What does this involve, and what new businesses are you bring to Tracy City? “We are adding a laundry mat and a liquor store to the Grundy Market. Each business is separate, but they are all located next to one another. I wanted a place where people could do their laundry in clean machines. All of our machines are new and the laundry mat is already open. We hope to open the liquor store in about one week.”
You are busy operating your stores. What do you like to do with your free time? “I love to check on my stores and meet the customers. I like to get to know them and their families. They become my friends. I work out at the gym. And, I travel. I try to go back to India once a year.”
What are some of your favorite things about Grundy County? “I really love the people. I have made many friends. I enjoy going to the natural areas with my family. We like the state park where the kids can play.”
Misty and Shammy saw a need in the community for new businesses. They are working to help Grundy grow. Misty encourages everyone to stop in the Grundy Market and say “hi”.
