On Tuesday, May 19, Lieutenant Antuan Brown of the Whitwell Police Department, while on routine patrol, noticed a 1997 Chevrolet pickup sitting in the Raceway parking lot on Highway 28 with its parking lights on. Deciding to investigate, he found the driver slumped over the steering wheel holding a partially eaten sandwich in his hands, the windows were rolled up, the doors were locked, and the vehicle was running. Brown, assisted by Trooper Terry Parker, made several attempts to wake the driver. At this time, officers didn’t know if he was suffering from a medical condition, or if something else was wrong.
he man finally came to, and after speaking with officers, gave permission for them to search his vehicle. A bag containing 28-1/2 grams of methamphetamine was found, along with prescription pills including Oxycodone and Xanex, and a dozen needles.
The driver, Paul Zachary Meeks, 30, of Tracy City, was arrested and officers seized the vehicle.
