Seniors Aiden Lusk and Stevie King were named the recipients of the inaugural Yellow Jacket Award on Monday. The duo received the Grundy County High School Sports Hall of Fame’s top honor for current student-athletes during Senior Awards Night at Coach Ricky Richards Gym.
The award, presented by State Farm agent Hank Rymer, was established this year to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Hall’s founding and recognizes the best all-around student-athletes of the 2023 senior class - considering athletic accomplishments, academic performance and service to the community.
Lusk lettered four seasons in basketball and two in football. The honors student carried a 3.96 GPA and was a member of National Honor Society, Youth Leadership Grundy and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. The football All-Region 4-3A First Team tight end ranked third on the team with 14.2 receiving yards per game in 2022. He recently signed to play football at Cumberland University next year.
King was a four-year golf letter winner and played basketball for three seasons. She served as a golf team co-captain for all four years and was a member of numerous clubs. She earned honors-student status with a 3.3 GPA and was active in her community as a volunteer with the Lions Club. She helped lead GCHS girls’ golf to back-to-back district titles for the first time in school history in 2021 and 2022, and she placed runner-up as an individual in district tournament this past season. King became the first Lady Jacket to compete in the state tournament in 2022 since Loren Pickett in 2008.
The two winners were also invited to attend the 2023 GCHS Sports Hall of Fame Banquet and Induction Ceremony, where they will each be recognized and receive their awards.
This year’s banquet and induction ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 5 inside the GCHS cafeteria. A social hour is scheduled for 4 p.m. with dinner and awards set to begin at 5 p.m.
The Hall of Fame Class of 2023 will be announced in the last week of May. Tickets for the banquet and induction ceremony will go on sale shortly after the class announcement and will be available for purchase from a member of the GCHS Sports Hall of Fame Committee.
