The Cannon County Lions took three years of frustration out on the Grundy County Yellow Jackets as they shut out their visitors 33 – 0. The loss for the Jackets was the fifth in a row and they dropped their Region 4 – 3A record to 0 – 2. Their overall record dropped to 1 – 5.
The Jackets return home tomorrow night (Friday) to face the Cascade Champions. It is Homecoming for Grundy County and they are facing a team that has won two games in a row after dropping their first four games of this year and going winless last year. The Jackets defeated the Champions 27 – 14 last season. Game time is 7 p.m.
Last Friday night was very frustrating for Coach Tracy Hayworth and his Yellow Jackets as they were totally dominated by the Lions. The Jackets netted six yards on 32 plays on offense and the defense yielded 381 yards on 59 plays.
The young Jackets played hard from start to finish, but they were unable to get anything going. The opening drive looked promising after the first three plays, but a fumble on a pass completion near midfield ended what started out as the best offensive positioning for the Jackets on the night.
The Jackets were a lot more disciplined than their hosts. They were penalized three times for 25 yards, while the Lions were flagged 19 times for 155 yards.
The Jackets are still fighting and playing as hard as a young inexperienced team can play. Their chances of ending the Champions modest two game winning streak tomorrow night will be enhanced if they are inspired by a large crowd like you, the fans, have shown in the first two home games. Give these young men and their coaches all the support you can and let them know that they are heading in the right direction.
