Family and friends gathered in the fellowship hall at Bivens’ Chapel Church on January 13, to shower Troas Mae Knowlan Layne, of Palmer, with gifts and love on her 80th birthday. All of her children and their spouses were present including Delbert and Millie Layne, Tony and Mary Layne, Doyle and Kellie Layne, Russell and Becky Layne, and Wanda and Lee Meeks. The Meeks’ run S.A.M.S. Corner Restaurant in Coalmont, and Wanda’s sugar free chocolate cake was a big hit at the celebra-tion.
Also present were a number of grandchildren and two Troas’ brothers, Charles Ray and Preston Knowlan.
“Many of you remem-ber the Fate Knowlan fami-ly who lived for years next to the Edd Nunley Store in Palmer,” says Palmer Town Historian David Patton. “Troas, Charles Ray, and Preston are the only ones left from that large family. She was the lunchroom manager at Palmer School for years and is the widow of Leonard Layne. Con-gratulations to Troas on this milestone birthday.”
